On social media, people unfriended or unfollowed each other; some couples even broke up over politics. Education is not a luxury*

degree“Today, even working at McDonald’s requires a bachelor’s degree!” I heard once. It sounds like a joke right? Well it is, since it’s not really a requirement to work at McDonald’s. It’s not yet, but you never know. Things are evolving. It may be the case in 10 or 20 years. Who knows? The point is that more education and skills are required on the labor market today. It seems like a bachelor’s degree is what a high school diploma used to be, and master’s degree corresponds to a bachelor’s degree. Continue reading “Education is not a luxury*”

Le paradoxe d’écrire en Haïti (VIDEO)

20161120_155822Haïti, un pays à fort taux d’analphabétisme (répète-t-on souvent), est un pourtant un véritable vivier d’écrivains. Ce que plus d’un considèrent comme un paradoxe. Beaucoup d’écrits mais peu de lus, croirait-on. Et pourtant la littérature haïtienne est l’une des plus florissantes dans le monde. Comment les auteurs haïtiens vivent-ils ce paradoxe. Les écrivains Gary Victor, Yanick Lahens et Edwige Danticat ont pu répondre à cette douloureuse question qui leur a été posée dans le cadre de la 33e édition de la Foire du livre de Miami par la   présidente de la FOKAL (Fondasyon Konesans ak Libète), Michèle Pierre-Louis.
