For the past ten years, a courtyard in Little Haiti has served as a steady stage where Haitian music and community life meet. “Sounds of Little Haiti,” held at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex every third Friday of each month, has grown from a neighborhood gathering to a platform that draws audiences from across South Florida and visitors who seek a direct window into Haitian culture.

‘Joined at the Roots’ an Exhibition to Change the Haitian and Black American Narrative

Haitians and Black Americans have lived side by side in South Florida for decades. While the relationship between the two communities has not always been smooth, they have managed to coexist, “building families, businesses, churches, and communities that defied the odds,” according to Bart Mervil, CEO of My Urban Contemporary Experience (MUCE) and organizer of the “Joined at the Roots” exhibit, currently on view at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex through Saturday, Aug. 30.

‘Revelations in Rhythm’ honors the African roots of the art of tap dance

Black Police Precinct & Courthouse Museum Presents ‘This Woman’s Work’

Black policing in Miami was not always as integrated as it is today. Black officers were once marginalized. The Black Police Precinct & Courthouse Museum proposes to tell the story and imprint it into collective memory through its various exhibits, such as the recent “This Woman’s Work: The Power of A Woman’s Touch,” an exhibition honoring Black women in the judiciary and law enforcement in South Florida.

Haitian Art from the Heartland to Miami’s Little Haiti

Haitian art has journeyed from Iowa to the walls of Miami’s Little Haiti. Titled “Global Borderless Caribbean XVI: Haiti in the Heartland,” the public art exhibition, is a collaboration of the Little Haiti Cultural Complex, Haitian Cultural Arts Alliance, the Waterloo Center for the Arts in Waterloo, Iowa, and the “Haitian Arts: A Digital Crossroads” (HADC) project.

‘I Dream A World’ At New World Dedicated to Black Trailblazers
